The roads leading to the Mirror Suite in Búðardalur are serviced all year-round!

Our location is perfectly suited to be visited all year-round. The most important road to heading to our location is Road Number 60. The winter service on Road 60 is 365 days per year from 09.00-19.00. Please check road.is and vedur.is before driving to Budardalur to make sure that you arrive on time. Other roads do not have daily winter service. They  should be planned in advance and checked regularly since weather conditions are changing rapidly here in Iceland.

Winter Driving:

Driving Iceland in winter can be a challenging but rewarding experience. The country's stunning landscapes are often at their most beautiful during this season, but the weather and road conditions can be unpredictable and demanding. To ensure a safe and enjoyable trip, follow this guide on driving in Iceland during the winter months:

Road Accessibility:

  • Most roads in Iceland are safe to drive in winter as they are quickly cleaned up.

  • Avoid the Highland Roads entirely, as most roads are closed during winter.

  • North and East Iceland can be challenging, heavy snowfall can make many roads dangerous, however Road 1 (know as the "Main Road" or "Ring Road") has daily winter service.

  • The Road 60 to the Mirror Suite is also cleared daily.

Choose your car wisely:

  • Opt for a 4X4 vehicle equipped with winter tires for added safety.

  • 4X4 vehicles offer better traction and stability, crucial in winter conditions.

Ring Road:

  • You can drive the Ring Road in winter but be cautious, especially in Northeast Iceland.

  • Some parts have unpaved gravel sections that can be hazardous.

  • Rent a 4X4 vehicle and carry emergency supplies if driving in winter.

  • Traveling to Snaefellsnes and Budardalur is manageable and makes for a great winter getaway.
